Empowering Women & Non-binary Femmes of Color in the Climate Movement

We empower and nurture the leadership of Women and Non-binary Femmes of Color within the Climate and environmental Movement, offering them support, resources, and a thriving community.

Our Theory of Change

What We Do

Rise to Thrive is more than an organization; it's a vibrant movement and support network for Women of Color in the environmental and climate justice movement, serving as a hub for new, innovative, and community-centered visions to create an environmentally just world. Our members have firsthand experience with environmental and climate injustice, and together, we're united by a shared purpose: uplifting and empowering marginalized voices in the climate fight.

Women of Color have seen the ways that lack of political power and lack of access to tangible and social capital shape how we are heard and unheard. Despite knowing our communities best, we are shut out of conversations and uninvited to tables that would change the health and social outcomes of our communities. Rise to Thrive will change the environmental movement by ensuring that more Women of Color have the opportunity to lead.

Our Vision

At Rise to Thrive, our commitment to justice involves recognizing the vital importance of empowering and uplifting the leadership, vision, and expertise of Women and Femmes of Color. Our objective is to catalyze a transformative shift of power within the environmental movement, focusing on those who have been historically marginalized.

Movement Builders

Our mission at Rise to Thrive is to serve as movement builders, amplifying the leadership of Women and Femmes of Color, while cultivating a resilient social movement ecosystem rooted in climate and environmental justice. We operate through the lens of Climate Justice, recognizing the interconnectedness of social issues within the context of the climate crisis. This approach highlights that communities most severely affected by climate change often hail from historically marginalized and under-resourced backgrounds, encompassing Women, LGBTQIA individuals, youth, persons with disabilities, Indigenous groups, and BIPOC communities. Climate Justice investigates the root causes of social disparities, emphasizing the interwoven nature of social issues and examining the climate crisis through the prisms of race, gender, class, and environmental harm.
